Welcome to Installment 1 of 3 of my Simple…Kind of Simple Ways of Saving for the Holidays!

The holiday season is just around the corner, and with no new relief check from Uncle Sam in sight…we’re all wondering…how are we going to be able to get ready for the holidays without emptying out pockets. No worries I’m here to help.

Here’s some ways to keep your wallet full for Holiday Travel:

    Holiday Travel

Strategy A: Book and Track your fares early

            Difficulty: Moderate

Plane tickets are not cheap to come by and they’re harder and harder to find especially if you plan on traveling last minute to popular destinations. I highly suggest www.farecast.com. Here you can track you fares for up to 3 months so you have an idea of when will be the best time to book your airline tickets. I suggest checking daily and booking at least 2-3 weeks in advance before your travel dates

Strategy B: Leave and Return on a Weekday

           Difficulty: Easy

Leaving and returning on a flight during the weekday actually makes a huge difference when it comes to fares. If you’re flexible and can travel on a weekday it can save you $50 or more per plane ticket.

Strategy C: Use your Miles, but read the fine print

           Difficulty: Moderate

If you have your miles, this is the time to use them. They can save you from at least paying the entire fare. Be sure to make read the fine print. Airlines are changing rules on how to use miles, so you may still have to pay a fee and there may be restrictions to follow, but if you can work around them, they’re something to consider!
