Hermes Paper Cut-out Kelly Bag

So I saw a video a couple of days ago and was just appalled.  I mean really appalled.  If you must know, I am and will forever be an Hermes fan.  Their attention for detail, their use of quality leather, their use of beautiful colors—Hermes is a brand that I equate to elegance.  Now, this video just insults me (since I love the brand so much) as well as the upscale brand because it’s just a mockery of one of the prestigious bag in the world, the Hermes Kelly bag.  You can see the video at the following link: abcnews.go.com/video/playerIndex?id=7490705.

For those who don’t know, the Kelly bag was named after the American actress turned Princess of Monaco Grace Kelly after she started carrying the bags.  The Kelly bags have become quite popular more recently due to the recent exposures through celebrities and television shows such as Sex and the City.  And it doesn’t hurt to be one of the most hard to get handbags in the world.  We always want what we can’t have, right?  If you watch this video, the Hermes website has a cutout of their Kelly bag for people to make their own version of it.  Clearly, this is meant as a fun activity for personal use-whether you want to make it out of paper, or other materials.  But the lady in the video who makes her own version of the Kelly bag using real leather actually has the guts to go out to the public AND a Hermes store to COMPARE her home-made bag to the actual real deal.  COME ON.   Get real.  Do you honestly think you can compare your home-made bag to one of the most high quality, most sought-after bag?  Do you think you can compare your quality to that of the real bag?  Obviously your quality is nowhere as near as delicate to the real deal unless you are one of a kind craftsman.  So if you ever decide to make your own Kelly bag, please don’t ever go out to the public with a camera asking them to compare.  Of course they would feel it’s courtesy to say that your bag is just as good.  And don’t ever go into a Hermes store to compare your quality.  That is such an insult.  You should know better than to insult the Gods…of handbags…
