Marchesa

Since launching in 2004, Marchesa has become a staple in the high-end fashion arena. Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig, co-founders and designers of Marchesa, have decided to enter the accessories showground, debuting for their spring collection at The Chelsea Art Museum in NY during NY Fashion Week on September 16, 2009.

The line will consist of 28 clutches and evening cases featuring beading, pleating, corsetry, embellishments, embroidery details, tassels, rock jewels, and an array of different materials such as alligator, crocodile and lizard skins. Beading is done in India, but the bags are made by hand in New York. The handbags will range from a little under $1,000 to $5,000 depending on the material of the handbag.

Crossing over into the accessories department is quite a smart move for them. Not everyone has the occasion to wear red carpet pieces, but there will always be an occasion to carry these bags to dress up the low key jeans and top duo. I’m excited to see what the line has to offer. I’m sure all the stylists are anxiously sitting at the edge of their seats waiting for a peek at these bags.
