There are few reasons to get different length straps for bags. Someone of them are better than others but here are some of the examples that I can think of, feel free to add your own.

 

Reasons to get a bag with Long Straps:

Usually can be put over your shoulder easily
Good with coats and heavy clothing
More convienent to carry daily
Reasons to get a bag with Short Straps:

easy on the shoulders
looks cuter
quick access to everything
